Reset your personality

When I work with leadership teams, quite often, we discuss a lot of routines and habits that they need to put in place during the day.

One of the discussions we have is about how they disconnect from their workday before going home.

And what I’ve found is very interesting.

Bonjour. In this video, I want to share one very simple tactic that can have an impact on your personal life.

The feedback I get from a lot of my clients is that they fail to disconnect at the end of the day.

They have long and stressful days, full on meetings, email galore, and they have to deal with any crisis. So, the day gets longer and longer.

And when they finally get home, either they work from home or they work in an office.

That’s why, at the end of the day, they’re exhausted. They’re often not in the greatest mood. And sometimes, they’re still in working mode or stressed by work.

So, they really fail to disconnect and connect with their loved ones.

We discussed quite a few tactics on what to do for the end of the day.

And one of the tactic we discussed is a really simple one, which is about resetting your personality.

I know that might sound strange, so what do I mean by that?

Here’s an example:

It’s now 6:30 and it’s the end of my workday. And I’m about to go home and connect with my loved ones, with my beautiful wife, TK, with my daughter, Mirabelle.

What I do just before getting upstairs to see the family is I ask myself:

“What do I want to be?”

And I say to myself, “I’m not any more Cyril the speaker, the trainer, the leader of this business. I am now Cyril, the loving and caring husband. I am now Cyril, the loving, caring, fun father.”

I really try to put myself into this new personality so that when I walk in the lounge and I see TK, I see Mirabelle, it’s the loving, caring, fun Cyril they get. And not Cyril the stressed-from-his-day-and-all-the-things-he-has-to-do.

So, let me ask you:

What do you want to be when you walk home in the evening after your working day?

What is the person you want to be when you are home?

This is this week’s Work Smarter, Live Better tip. You have a lovely day. You have beautiful evenings with your loved ones. I’ll see you soon.

A bientôt,
Cyril
