Ever found yourself diving into books, articles, or podcasts, discovering pearls of wisdom that resonate deeply with you, thinking, “This could be a game-changer!” But then…nothing happens?
Bonjour, in this video, I want to share two simple discipline that have made a world of difference for me in turning knowledge into action.
Today, I’m on my sunny balcony in Sydney, just soaking in this beautiful start to the day. The view here is something else – you’ve got the ocean in the backdrop, it’s pretty awesome. Right now, I’m kicked back with a fantastic read called “The Road Less Stupid” by Keith Cunningham
If you’re into books, you should check this out, I recommend it.
You know, there’s a treasure trove of amazing stuff out there these days – tons of books, podcasts, articles, even documentaries. It’s crazy how much info is at our fingertips, and the best part? It’s all super easy to get and doesn’t break the bank.
In an era of information abundance, the challenge isn’t accessing information; it’s effectively converting it into action. Here are the four steps I follow: Selecting, Absorbing, Reflecting & Applying.
· Selecting: This starts with a gut feeling. When something piques my interest – be it a book, a podcast, or an article – I don’t overthink it. I shoot myself an email with the subject line, “Check this out,” and spend a quick two minutes scanning reviews or summaries. If my gut gives a thumbs-up, I invest a mere $20 or less, and I’m off to the races.
· Absorbing: Every day, I carve out a portion of my morning routine (30 minutes for me, but even 10 minutes daily works wonders) for reading. With the sun gently lighting my space, it’s pure bliss. I grab a book from my ever-growing pile and dive in. If a book doesn’t vibe with me, I don’t force it; I move on. To enhance my reading experience, I have my trusty highlighter, a small notebook, and my beloved four-color pen. I jot down ideas, scribble thoughts, and create messy mind maps. It’s all part of the process.
· Reflecting & Applying: This is the secret sauce! Once a week during my workdays, I allocate a solid hour and a half to revisit my notes and ponder what I’ve learned. It’s where the magic happens. I ask myself, “How can I apply this?” Continuous improvement isn’t just about absorbing information; it’s about integrating it into your life. This reflection time allows me to bridge the gap between theory and practice.
So, let me ask you this: What discipline do you have in place for continuous learning and improvement? Are you actively absorbing, reflecting, and applying the valuable insights you encounter?
These disciplines have revolutionized the way I approach information. I hope they inspire you to take action and make the most of the incredible knowledge available at your fingertips.
This is this week’s Work Smarter: Live Better tip. Wishing you a lovely day ahead!
A bientôt,
