What would you say if I offered you an investment which would give you a return 10% per year?
Pretty good.
What about 20% per year?
Amazing.
And what about 500% per year?
I am pretty sure you wouldn’t believe me. You would say it’s impossible, it’s a scam.
Bonjour, in this video, I want to share one simple advice which can get a 500% return on time invested per year.
Today I am in Bukhara in Uzbekistan, six hours south of Tashkent. We are continuing our trip to support Cameron and the under-23 Australian team. This afternoon we are driving back to Qarshi to watch the second game but in between games, TK and I are visiting this fascinating country.
Bukhara is a very old city. It used to be called the shinning pearl of the silk road. Many centuries on, it is still a silk pearl, so majestic and beautiful.
However, despite being on leave, my business Work Smarter: Live Better is still open and working very well. Why? Because I have an amazing team working with me.
Many years ago, one of my mentors, Taki, challenged me with the concept: ICE Genius. He asked me to segment what I was doing in four categories: I for incompetent, C for competent, E for excellent and G for Genius.
His advice: get rid of I and C, keep a few E’s and mainly focus on your Genius. Since then, I have been trying to eliminate and delegate as much as I can. The 500% return on investment I discussed at the start is to do with delegating.
Let me explain.
Imagine that you’re doing a task which takes about half an hour every week. Half an hour per week over a year is 24 hours. Now imagine that you are investing 4 hours to delegate: 2h to find someone, 1h to train them and 1h to check. You had to invest 4h but your return on investment is 20 (24-4). 500%.
And in addition to this you get to spend much more time doing the things you love doing, your Genius.
This has completely changed my way of working. I now delegate as much as I can: I have an amazing assistant Jilord who manages all our programs, I have a great coaching team, I have a great IT provider who takes care of all the technical tasks and so on.
The aim every time: finding someone who is a Genius at my ICE.
I can assure you that it’s not that hard. Invest a few hours to properly delegate because the return on investment is so worth it. Moreover, if you apply this to all your ICE, the return on investment is huge.
So, my question for you today is this: what is the one thing that you really should delegate?
This is this week’s Work Smarter: Live Better tip. I hope you enjoy it. I’m going to continue travelling with TK and discovering this great country, Uzbekistan.
A bientôt,
Cyril
