At home or online do not forget to breathe

Bonjour, this is Cyril from Work Smarter, Live Better. In this video, I want to share one simple tip that can really improve and boost your productivity. This tip is important in normal times and even more so when people are forced to work remotely.

Today I am in Boston in one of my client’s office. It has been one of the craziest weeks in my professional career I have ever experienced. I had flown to the US and Europe to do two weeks of live training and was suddenly asked to do it virtually.

Over the years I have delivered a lot of webinars of one to two hours. But never whole days. I was worried it was going to be difficult for all the participants to enjoy and benefit from a whole day carried out virtually. It was going to be hard for people to concentrate without that face to face contact.

The solution – let me breathe, or I should say let them breathe.

Trying to do too much is an issue I see every day in business: days full of back to back meetings, lunch eaten quickly in front of the computer, trying to do three things at once… A key principle of working smarter is ‘let me breathe’. You should avoid back to back meetings like the plague. Every 45mn to 1h, make sure you breathe and have short but real breaks.

And this is what we did during the whole day of webinars: keeping the energy level going with many opportunities to have a break.

I even tried a new breather: a stretching session…

I made these leaders stretch in front of everyone on camera and this included some push ups, listening to ACDC being played in the background. It was so much fun.

By the way bad news for all: checking your emails is not a breather. Instead have a walk a stretch, listen to some music…

Make sure you have regular breathers whether working from home, in a virtual meeting or in your office.

This is this week’s Work Smarter: Live Better tip. If you need more help on how to work smarter remotely, you are welcome to download for free this training session I recorded recently.

With love and care

Cyril
