Choose one game changer

‘How can I choose a few priorities when the goalposts are constantly moving?’

I had an interesting conversation this week with the leader of a global food and beverage company. During our discussion, he shared his constant struggle to determine priorities amid a flood of requests and rapidly shifting circumstances.

Bonjour, in this video, I want to share one simple advice that can really have a big impact long term on your performance.

What this leader shared isn’t an isolated incident. It’s a sentiment echoed by many leaders across diverse industries. They acknowledge the company’s strategy, they grasp the importance of aligning with priorities, yet the reality is starkly different. The everyday bustle, the ever-persistent urgencies, the rapid changes – they all conspire to blur the lines of priority and create an environment of perpetual chaos.

Now, if you’re familiar with my approach, you’ve probably heard me suggesting to “Think Quarterly, Plan Weekly, Act Daily.” But here’s the hitch I often hear – how can we think quarterly when everything around us is so fluid?

I’ve discovered a simple, yet potent technique to navigate through the chaos – I call it the “one game changer.”

Imagine this – every quarter, ask yourself a single transformative question: “What is my game-changer?” Envision yourself a year from now and contemplate: what one thing, if you focus on it today, could be a complete game-changer in a year’s time? It’s a seemingly simple yet incredibly potent query.

I won’t sugarcoat it – embarking on this journey won’t yield immediate, drastic results. It’s not a quick fix, but rather a gradual transformation. You may not see a notable difference next week or even the week after, but mark my words, in a year’s span, you’ll look back with a sense of fulfillment.

This is your anchor, your compass amid the turbulent sea of shifting priorities. Consistently identifying and dedicating time to your game-changer sets in motion a ripple effect, altering the course of your long-term success.

Now, my question for you is this: What is your one game changer? What priority, if nurtured starting now, has the potential to spark a game-changing transformation in your professional journey?

This week’s Work Smarter: Live Better tip.

I hope you have a lovely day.

A bientôt,

Cyril
