Bonjour. In this video, I would like to share some information about the type of equipment I use which enables me to work remotely.
I am currently in hotel quarantine. I have been away in Europe for two months, and due to Australia’s strict quarantine rules, I have not been able to see my wife TK, or my children yet. As soon as you land in Australia, you are welcomed by the army, the police, and some medical staff. Then you are put on a bus and driven straight to a specific quarantine hotel where you end up staying there for two weeks.
Once in the hotel room you are not allowed to pass the door. Food is delivered twice a day and you can open the door once you hear a knock, grab the food and close the door again!
Basically, you do not leave these 20 square meters for two weeks.
However, I am quite lucky as I have a spacious room with a little kitchen and even a washing machine. In addition to this I received a care package from my lovely wife today which included a French baguette, a few cheeses, and a bar of Lindt chocolate………. sea salt caramel, my favorite!
Happy man.
Like many people I have been working remotely while travelling and while in quarantine. Quite a few of my clients have asked me about the equipment I use to work remotely.
Let me show you.
For my video meetings I use zoom when I set up the meeting. I also use Microsoft Teams and webex which are platforms also used by many companies around the world.
For the camera I use a Canon EOS 200D. The quality is great. The only drawback is that I had to buy a separate box called Blackmagic to liaise my camera to my computer. You may want to check if this can be avoided with new models of cameras.
For my microphone I use the RODE USB NT. The quality is awesome.
I have taken this equipment with me for the past 2 months I have been away. It takes me 15mn to set up everything in each new location, and then I am good to go. I was able to do all my video calls, all my speeches, all my training sessions from overseas while travelling, without compromising on the quality.
Therefore, whether you are working from home or travelling, it is not hard today to have the right equipment and look professional. Moreover, it is no longer that expensive to get set up and trust me, it is so worth it!
This is this week’s Work Smarter: Live Better tip. Drop me an email if you have further questions.
I have another ten days of quarantine until being reunited with TK and the kids after more than two months away. I cannot wait.
Have a great day.
A bientôt
Cyril
