Life by design

Bonjour, this is Cyril from Work Smarter, Live Better.

In this video I’m going to talk about a very important concept called life by design.

I’m in a special place. As you can see I’m not at my desk today, I’m in the Garigal National Park. I live in Sydney, and near where I live there’s this beautiful park called the Garigal National Park. And twice a week, at least, and sometimes on the weekend, I go and do a little bike ride. So, you can see, I’m on my bike ride. You can see my bike here.

The reason I’m showing that to you is because of a concept that I call life by design. I’ve designed what I call my ideal week. So, I spend the time to really think about what my ideal week would look like. Where would I be at my best? Where can I bring and be the best energy for my day? How can I be at my best with my family, bringing love and care? How can I bring best value to my clients?

So, what does my ideal week look like? And I’ve designed it. I thought I’d show that to you, so I’ve done a print, sorry it’s a bit messy. So, here is the print. What’s important, in blue is personal, in green is thinking, and then you’ve got some space in the afternoon for the meetings and the doing. So, morning you see there’s some meditation, time with the kids. Then there’s my thinking time in the morning. Then at lunchtime I have twice a week I go cycling. In the afternoon time with my clients, and so on and so on.

So, the example of the ride is a good one. I was used to do my sport twice a week in the morning, early morning. And then I thought, nah, where I’m best in the morning is thinking, my brain is fresh. So, I don’t want to use that for exercise. I’m going to do my most thinking in the morning, and then twice a week at lunchtime I’m going to go for a bike ride. On Monday, and on Friday.

So, in my ideal week you can see on Monday and on Friday bike ride around lunchtime. Now, that works for me, that’s the rhythm that works for me. It doesn’t mean that works for other people. Does that mean I do it exactly that every week? No. There’s nothing like a perfect ideal week. But at least I’ve got a blueprint that I start with when I thought what’s the ideal? What works really well for me?
