71% of managers say their meetings are unproductive
65% say meetings keep them from completing their work
A recent article published in the Harvard Business Review shared these interesting findings based on interviewing 182 senior managers. We often hear the topic of ineffective meetings when working with large companies: too many meetings, back-to-back all day, too long. People complain that a lot of their meetings are not productive enough. This creates a real fatigue around meetings.
Bonjour, in this video, I would like to share one simple piece of advice to make your meetings faster and more productive.
One simple suggestion is to make your meetings more effective: create a template.
What do I mean by that? Try to think about the different ‘types’ of meetings you have, and you will most probably notice that some are similar and repetitive. For example, you have the weekly team meeting, the quarterly offsite session, the potential client meeting and so on.
Create a template means that for all the meetings which are similar, you create a template. You design a nine square table or six square table with the different steps of the meetings. For example:
You can start with a very simple template like the one above and improve it as you go. It seems simple but it will make your meetings much quicker to prepare, faster to run and more focused.
My team and I have the pleasure of working with many leaders and their teams around the world. One of the habits of this journey is called ‘Declutter Your Time’ where we implement many simple but powerful practices to make meetings more productive. Simple ideas which make a big difference.
